I Never Thought Chapter 7 Would end

But it did! Heheh, oh Lawler. You’re so inexplicably adorable.

Okay, general consensus on what I should put in my blogs was anything, thoughts on my kindle, and any comics I’m reading. Alas, I don’t read much in the way of webcomics because I am a HUGE child who can’t handle competition so I try to pretend there is none.
I loooove the kindle. But that’s not to say I think it’s better than the Nook, I have no clue about the nook. I have a very basic device here, but it feeds my addiction quite nicely and is quite easy to navigate. My main complaint is that the books for download cost at least as much as paperbacks do on the whole. Not saving any money here. There is a very short, very sad selection of free classics, but at least there are some. (Werewolfling, you say put fanfics on the kindle? Great Scott! Why didn’t I think of that?) Also, a lot of the time I find myself wanting the print version of whatever I’ve downloaded so I can flip through it at random.

Speaking of print versions! White Noise volume one is complete, but the files are still being assembled at the printer. I went with Ka-Blam because they have great prices and their quality is great (my darker pages which should have by all rights come out as black blobs on the test book printed beautifully!) so this means that the moment the files are ready, the book will be available for purchase from them as print-on-demand. I might still beat NNFB to print! 8D That’s my goal in webcomics, to beat NNFB to something, anything!

Thank you all for your kind words! I really don’t deserve this understanding fanbase. You guys deserve a much cooler webcomicker, who updates every other day, finishes things she starts, never maintains radio silence for more than ten seconds, and saves orphanages from runaway trains filled with explosive chemicals. I shall find this person and enslave them for you!

  • Oh, by the way MadSniper ... you were mentioning the dearth of free classics? Have you checked out Project Gutenberg? As they put it, they have "over 33,000 free ebooks to read on your PC, iPad, Kindle ..." and so on. Excellent selection. They're at: http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/...

Thanks Danzier! LOL I actually keep mine in my password protected PDA. That way I only have to remember ONE password.

BTW, MadSniper, have you read any of the Dresden Files books? I just started the first one ("Storm Front") the other day. Excellent so far (1/2 way through). Just a suggestion if you haven't picked them up yet.
  • madsniper
Thanks for the link! I'll definitely have to check that out! (needs more readin material for the beach soon).
I have not read Dresden Files yet, but they are on the list of stuff I need to read! Alex at NNFB pointed me at them a while ago, he's a huge fan.^^

There's a writer who I follow who is looking at putting books into e-book format. I know she's got some stuff about it on her site, but I havn't paid it much attention since I'm notoriously unhappy about the e-book concept. But I'd suggest it as a place to start. Her site is hollylisle.com.
  • E-books are okay. Except when the publisher is trying to charge almost as much for the electronic version as for the print version. But no matter what, I will ALWAYS prefer to have a real book to read ... nothing beats the smell and feel of a new book.
  • Danzier
That's certainly true; I've got 5 floor-to-ceiling bookshelves full that agree with you, too. Almost nothing beats the feel of old books, too--but they can sometimes smell fishy.

In other news...I keep a list of my usernames etc. in a binder right by my computer. In code because I'm a little paranoid, but still. :D
  • I just wish I could remember how I had logged in when I had commented previously so I could do so again.

    Nope ... that wasn't it either. <sigh></sigh>
  • And YAAAAAAY! I remembered how I was posting! (It's sooooo hard ... so many user ID's ... so many passwords ... )
  • Danzier
Hey BarnOwl, did you get here from Selkie too?
  • Hi Danzier. No, actually I'd been following WN for quite a while before I found my way to "Selkie". I found her as an ad on either "Sandra and Woo" or "Dominic Deegan" I think.
  • Sorry, I didn't make that very clear. I really can't recall exactly how I found "White Noise", though it was undoubtedly through an ad on another comic or, quite possibly, a link from another comic artist's favorite comics. I found Selkie through an ad on (I think maybe) "Sandr and Woo" or maybe "Dominic Deegan".

Thats interesting, I mistyped a word while I was googleing "White Noise Headphones", and found a link to here...

...and was kidnapped, drugged, and coerced into reading the webcomic, and was only released when I had read all of it.

NOT that I didn't enjoy every single minute of it...
  • Having never read "NNFB", I had to do a quick google of it ... looks like it might be good. As for NNFB vs. WN ... yeah, so far I like WN way better. Your art is much smoother and softer and has a friendlier feel to it (I guess that's how I'd put it anyway). Don't sweat it ... your art is fabulous. And, your story is keeping me completely hooked and coming back for more.
  • Moonfrost
Same for me I'll take what I can get, and your problably the only webcomic I'd try my hardest to get the print :D
  • Well, it's not like we have any real leverage over you to *make* you update more often...personally, I will take what comes...
  • and if you did have leverage over her?
  • I was doing research on it, because taking fanfiction with me is kinda difficult. I've made books before, but they're hard to not waste paper (my printers love to stick pages together and that messes with the order) Or I can just put them in three ring binders, which in turn can get pretty heavy.

But anyways, the research. There are programs you can download to save your own e-books, or make your own .pdf files, which are compatable with all e-readers as far as I can tell. I hope to get a big screened kindle soon, then I'd let you know for sure.

I think NNFB is actually very close to print. I'm just gonna have to challenge them to a dance off. I think I could win a dance off.
  • Ariane
I'm going to be using the phrase "Flakey McFlakerson" in conversation now. Thanks :-)
  • madsniper
    *lol* sure thing.^^

I'm going to be using the phrase "Flakey McFlakerson" in conversation now. Thanks :-)
  • Personally I think you've had NNFB beat since you started.
  • snowhummingbird
I totally Lol'd at the last bit. xD LOL
Congrats about the book! xD Can't wait til it comes out! ^_^

Eh, if we had another webcomicker we wouldn't have the awesome story to read. ;D No complaints from me! xD

If you're ever short on funds, you can always copy what all the other great webcomics are doing, and make a donation bar that adds for extra pages.

This is a double-edged sword; it builds a HUGE fanbase quick, as they will stick around to see their money at work ^_^, and also motivates YOU to greater heights of awesomeness, and possibly builds more buffer pages for when you need it.

Not to mention, of course, you get more munies to buy moar sammiches. lol
  • madsniper
I would love to do that, but I have yet to prove myself with a regular update. It would be HORRIBLE if people paid me for extra pages and I didn't deliver. 0_o It's something to consider though, perhaps after I've managed a whole year on weekly updates.
  • Holly
or you could sell your comic pages once your done with them! A couple of bucks each and shipping on that ofcorse. Just think! all those used pages laying around your home full of doodles, scribles, notes, bad page layouts and the odd coffee stain could be headed out your door, providing you with some extra cash, and creating room for more more drawings!
  • madsniper
Also an excellent idea! Alas, most of my pages are entirely digital. 0_o I'm shooting everything down here!
  • Holly M Art
Print the top 5 most popular pages from each chapter, sign your name with a sharpy and then mail  THOSE out!
  • PluckyPooka
    Yay an update!

I'm glad to see the book is almost ready. I can't wait get it. ^_^
  • Gerbrith
On the other hand, you'd have lots of time to draw while in jail! This might possibly be a good idea after all.
  • madsniper
You know, I've actually thought about this? Like, serious consideration.
  • There are days where I think solitary confinement sounds really, really nice. No one bothering me, free meals without having to leave my room, peace and quiet...XD
  • as long as there's an internet connection so i can read this AWESOME WEBCOMIC!! XD. I do that too sometimes. it just seems like to be alone for a while would be helpful.
  • John Ellison
Yeah, as long as they allowed me my DS so I could play Pokémon!
  • But, you're like, totally awesome and stuff! :D Stop beating yourself up. Besides, waiting for the updates make them that much sweeter when they come around. :3
Will you do a preorder thing for volume one?
  • Oh and besides, if you enslaved someone for us, you'd probably go to jail and definitely not be able to do lovely comics for us. So, uh... don't do that. ^.^;
Plus, those orphanages would ho un-rescued and be all blown up and stuff!
